DESCRIPTION:

It is a rare moment of pure humanity in Scudder's world and serves to give the impression that Scudder is a lot more than just a PI, thathis story doesn't stop when we're not reading about him."--Russel McLean, Crime Scene Scotland"It's easy to imagine yourself sitting on the couch in Scudder's home, sipping iced tea while jazz music plays softly in the backgroundYouare always guaranteed a good time."--John Neal, The Celebrity Café"My favorite, I think, is the title story, "The Night and the Music",which finds Matt and his wife Elaine talking and listening to music invarious places around their part of New York. I don't know if Block plans to write any moreabout Matt Scudder, and he may not know, either, but "One Last Night atGrogan's" has a beautifully elegiac feel to it, and if it does turn outto be the seri

Brian Koppelman, the prominent screenwriter and director (Solitary Man, Ocean’s Thirteen, Rounders) and a major Matt Scudder fan, has sweetened the pot with an introduction.. I just finished this collection of stories about Matthew Scudder. It works as both as a companion to the novels and as an introduction to those unfamiliar with them. For me, it was the latter. I'd never read any of the novels and was delighted enough as I read them to stop and order the first two books. They are not all crime stories. Some are character pieces that delve into Scudder's, and those around him, character. All quite nicely done.A quite satisfying set of stories.. "A Legend" according to Lou pendergrast. In these stories Matt Scudder looks back to his days as a patrolman and then a detective with the NYPD. If you never read a book in the Matt Scudder series this would be a good place to start and get a glimpse into his turbulent life. Block writes so well with this protagonist Matt a straight cut guy that has gathered many long time fans over the years. I found the short stories enjoyable and the mark of a crafted writer is apparent with stories that are light, enjoyable and easy to read through. The first
