DESCRIPTION:
. This is her first book. Melanie Cambridge teaches oil painting and is a regular contributor to Artists & Illustrators magazine and Painting World
In this book she reveals that this need not be the case. Showing that oils can in fact be a forgiving medium once you've learned a few basic principles, Melanie starts by looking at how to mix colours, how to master simple techniques, and how to use tone effectively. Many amateur painters seem wary of oil painting, believing it to be a difficult and messy medium to use that is best left to "the professionals". Each chapter focuses on a specific subject, such as skies, trees, water, flowers, buildings, figures and boats, and a number of step-by-step demonstrations show exactly how each picture is built up.. Melanie Cambridge sets out to dispel the myths surrounding the traditional medium of oils by offering simplified, step-by-step guidance on creating successful oil paintings in just one session. She then shows you how to paint a variety of colourful, vibrant landscapes in oils from sketches, photographs and on location

Dave in Hagerstown said a great book for the beginner or beyond!. This book helps de-mystify oil painting; making it so less complicated to choose colors and brushes. The projects help an artist to learn skills and master this medium. The book even covers a simple way to do plein aire painting. I love it!. I like the fast and relatively low control of watercolor. Seems to me when you lose control of oil paint, you get mud. If your are interested in alla prima or plein aire painting this is a great book. Painting wet on wet oil is great fun, and can be a great mess! And if you like to finish quickly, it's really the only way to do oil. It can be frustrating to try to learn this process without s
