"Very Helpful in Practice - Much Deeper than a Reference Guide" according to Joseph Bush. I have been developing Hadoop-based solutions for over two years, and I typically refer to two books - Tom White's book, "Hadoop: The Definitive Guide" which is a nice overview and a reference, and Alex Holmes' book, "Hadoop In Practice" which provides more context.After reading this book, I can say that Professional Hadoop Solutions does a very nice job at applying depth to some areas that are not covered elsew. "Thoughtful style" according to Dimitri K. I like this book for a thoughtful stile. It is not simply fragments of code, but it always tries (and manages) to explain why it is done this way. For me it is very important because I am not good in memorizing names and facts, but appreciate logic. It is very rare and great way to write books. I highly recommend this book (though not as an introduction).. Excellent but sloppy This book covers a niche that few others have in that it treats Hadoop as a framework rather than an application. It dives in depth into various parts of it and explains how to solve problems you may not have even known about. It also has three chapters on Oozie, a topic which is all but ignored in other publications.This book should have five stars and a glowing recommendation, but it is in dire need of editing
