DESCRIPTION:
The story is told in simple terms with beautiful illustrations by Kimberli Johnson.. Mary had many hardships along the way but is grateful for surviving the journey and the many blessing she has had in her life including her children and grandchildren. A children's story book about a grandmother sharing the story with her granddaughter of how she came to Zion with the Martin Handcart company in 1856 from far away England
Fullerlifewithdogs said Great for kids to understand family history. This is a really neat book for anyone to read, but especially for kids. Family history might be hard to introduce and understand from old photos or stories. This story is based on the experiences of real people, a individual who crossed the plains in a handcart company. It was not made up or a compilation of multiple people's experiences such as snippets and bits taken from here and there. This quality gives substance to the story. The illustrations are also nicely done. The characters don't have a ridiculous, comic strip look to them as some stories. W. Pioneer story for all ages I enjoyed this story and the illustrations, which paint the picture of a young girl's journey from the Old Country to a new Land, following her new faith with her family.I liked how the Grandmother answered her granddaughter's questions on what it was like to travel across the ocean and then the plains. It reflects the inquisitive nature of children, and the wise words that come from a lifetime of experience shared with love and reflection.Young and old will enjoy sharing this story together, especially on Pioneer Day (July 2Pioneer story for all ages T Porter I enjoyed this story and the illustrations, which paint the picture of a young girl's journey from the Old Country to a new Land, following her new faith with her family.I liked how the Grandmother answered her granddaughter's questions on what it was like to travel across the ocean and then the plains.
