DESCRIPTION:
More than that, the characters became dear friends of mine over the course of the book. “Smart, stylish Manon is portrayed with an irresistible blend of sympathy and snark. Here’s a treat for those who love their crime fiction rich in psychology, beautifully written, and laced with dark humor. As Manon exposes the mystery behind Edith’s disappearance, she also reveals the truth about her own loneliness and life. It all adds up to a world that feels much bigger than the novel in which it is contained.”
Detective Bradshaw’s biting wit is a bonus.”—The Wall Street Journal “Missing, Presumed has future BBC miniseries written all over it.”—Redbook “A highly charismatic and engaging story.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “This combination of police procedural and an unfolding family drama that continuously twists and turns will work well for fans of Kate Atkinson and Tana French.”—BooklistAt thirty-nine, Manon Bradshaw is a devoted and respected member of the Cambridgeshire police force, and though she loves her job, wha
I recommend this book highly Someone compared this writer to Elizabeth George which is why I purchased a copy. That is a fair comparison. The writing is crisp and fluid. The characters sharply drawn, strikingly realistic, the plot completely plausible. This is a well thought out and well crafted novel. It is a police procedural but like Elizabeth George and PD James it is also fine literary fiction. Books I would give a five star review . Sarah Margolis Pearce said Think Bridget Jones' Diary meets Scotland Yard.. I heard this author interviewed on NPR and thought her musings on writing "literary thrillers" was interesting. Weaving literature into a murder mystery is a particular talent. Unfortunately, this author doesn't quite accomplish it in this book. To do that, she would have had to combine a solid mystery with top notch police work. She did neither. However, I enjoyed the book for reasons other than the mystery . Brilliant Intriguing Mystery "Missing, Presumed" is a brilliant new mystery I couldn't put down. I read it in one long satisfied sitting. It's a complex story with a large number of characters, but not so many that one needs a separate notebook to track them all. They are fully fleshed out with a wide variety of back stories. These people are like most people anywhere. Some of them I liked sometimes, some I liked almost always and others
