Missing the point. Nel People who are decrying this book and Rob Bell because of his (rather vague) stance on hell or because of his so-called universalism are entirely missing the point. Even if you altogether remove those elements, Bell is still making a powerful statement about what it means to be a Christian. We are so concerned with where we're going when we die that we're ignoring what we're doing while we're here. Jesus didn't come to reconcile us in so. Non-commital argument for universal salvation Bell leaves open the idea of universal salvation without committing to it. I would have appreciated that he take a stand rather than leave it open-ended. We may not like the idea of hell, but it has been a doctrine of Christianity for centuries and is a part of Orthodox theology. To present a lukewarm argument on why this doctrine is wrong doesn't allow for some serious questions about how salvation is even necessary or how it works with. patia said Thought provoking.. Rob Bell raises lots of questions and makes you take a look at things in a new light. Heaven, hell, "innies and outies", and a whole lot more are questioned and answered in this book.I thought the book was interesting but I have to admit that I got tired of the writing style.
