DESCRIPTION:
"Kate Wilhelm is one of the very finest mystery writers I have encountered" according to Carolyn Short. Kate Wilhelm is one of the very finest mystery writers I have encountered. The most important thing to me is that her heroine - Barbara Holloway - has such a strong moral compass. She and her father are totally likeable, as well as extremely competent people - what a combination. If I could give 10 stars, I would.. Good, but. JennyJuniper I always enjoy Kate Wilhelm, but I confess that I'm a little confused as to this book's place in the series--it seems as if it's an early novel that was dug out of mothballs. If you've read the whole series, it's frankly difficult to place, unless I'm just senile of course. And it's a little irritating to go back to the 80s with Reagan as president, no cell phones etc. in this context. Of course, the plot would have been even more implausible with internet, so perhaps that's the reason.Still, I enjoyed the book very much. I enjoy a Barbara's character as som. mimi said skip this one. I've read all the B. Holloway books and many other ones by Wilhelm. I consider her a wonderful writer, though some of her other books are better than the Holloway ones. ButI'll quote a previous commenter: "I couldn't get into this one because the subject matter was confusing, and Barbara's life was out of sequence and I didn't care enough about the story to try to put it in context." The person who said that sums up my thoughts well. I don't mind going back in time, but there should have been some clue and link to modern times.
