Her historical novels have charmed and delighted millions of readers for decades, though she rarely reached out to the public to discuss her works or private life. She was married to George Ronald Rougier, a mining engineer, and they had one son together, Richard. It is known that she was born in Wimbledon in August 1902, and her first novel
Christine McDaniel said The Transformation of the Marquess Alverstoke. I have never read any of Georgette Heyer's Regency novels without feeling my time has been well spent. She writes with humor, using witty characters, plots with twists, and pays meticulous attention to details. The Marquess of Alverstoke is much envied by Society for his good looks, his exquisite wardrobe, and his plump pocketbook. But no one could possibly describe him as anything but cold, easily bored, and aloof. Having never been denied anything as a child, Vernon grew up self-centered and was constantly asked for material items by his two older sisters. He was considered the prize on the marriage Mart, and he grew very skilled at re. Booked for life said It's Clean, but it's funny as hell, too. Lord Alverstock is rich, polished, excellent at boxing, a superb driver and rider, but his sisters are making his life a living hell. Why won't he put on a ball to bring out his niece? It's such a little thing for a loving uncle. But Alverstock does not disturb his routine for mere relatives. However he find the Merrivale family to be interesting and almost inescapable. How boys become men is the theme of Frederica, when we see Frederica's brothers falling into scrapes, young men falling in lov. She's a pretty amazing author having written 50 books in 50 years Georgette Heyer is my guilty pleasure. She's a pretty amazing author having written 50 books in 50 years ranging from regency romance to crime novels. The great thing is her characters are satisfying and the details are wonderful down to the idioms used at the time and what people think and how they might change their minds. She touches on what was happening in society, in country life, in the military, in industry at various times in England's history. I feel I'm getting an education, but maybe that just lets me off the hook for enjoying them so much.
