DESCRIPTION:
The contributing authors explore the concept of disenfranchised grief, help define and explain this type of grief, and offer clinical interventions to help grievers express their hidden sorrow.. This book focuses on the kind of grief that is not openly acknowledged, socially validated, or publicly mourned. It addresses the unique psychological, biological, and sociological issues involved in disenfranchised grief
Challenging to read for an ordinary person but such an important subject I am very interested in learning more about grieving that doesn't have societal support or understanding. This book is the place to start. However some of the chapters are a bit heavy and I am not a psychologist so I am reading bits and pieces of the book. My own interest is that I am an animal lover and proud owner of Fu Manchu, an adorable cat and I am very interested in helping people who are suffering the loss of a beloved pet. I now have a certificate in counselling from a university and am reading alot to help me so that i can work with people with some confidence.. Louise Preston said Enfranchising!. A brilliant work about grief that is not usually considered by western society to be significant but grief that is real all the same.. Fantastic textbook. Fantastic textbook. I initially rented this book but decided it was one that I needed to keep. I took a social work class on grief because my son had just lost his father and I felt like the course would benefit me in more ways than one. This textbook will help anyone better understand disenfranchised grief.
