Dan Morgan, a Nawhe tribal teen discovers faith in Jesus in a place where such things are forbidden. Now the young teen, experiencing manhood in the ceremonies of the Nawhe, is confronted by his little brother's question of Dan's condemnation of their mother's religious teaching. After a traditional ceremony including demonic spirits manifesting themselves in the people as animal beings, Dan and his family are nearly beaten to death. The two become village evangelists amidst death threats from the traditional strongmen. The story is climaxed by the trio following through with their threats of attacking the boy in the same place his mother and sister were killed. After serious consideration and the prompting of a TV evangelist, Dan finds faith in Jesus. It is following by a sequel that continues the family's trials and is prefaced with a prequel that builds the suspense of the past.. His mother and sister were violently murdered for their faith three years earlier. Dan realizes he can't be ashamed of his God among those desiring to extinguish his existence among the Nawhe. The inspiring words of his dead mother's Bible challenge the knowledge of his forbidden faith among the Nawhe people. This story is inspirational, yet suspenseful. Dan's closest friend is converted after a near death experience. God begins to work miracles among the Nawhe at Dan's hand. Dan is tormented by a trio of Nawhe traditional bullies. Dark story Black Journey by Raymond Davilla is a sobering book. After reading this I have a better understanding for the reasons that Christian missionaries to the Native Americans seem to struggle in getting the message of Salvation to make as big an impact in the culture as would be expected. The story is fiction, but it is chilling.
