Armadale tells the devastating story of the independent, murderous, and adulterous Lydia Gwilt

`A gloriously dark tale of mixed identities and the irresistible, wicked Lydia Gwilt. Forget Dallas and Eastenders, this has to be the greatest of all soap operas.' Steven Isserlis, The Week

Many of his stories have been adapted for film, including Basil, A Terribly Strange Bed, The Moonstone and The Woman in White. English novelist and playwright Wilkie Collins was a prolific writer with a body of work comprising thirty novels, over sixty short stories, more than a dozen plays, and a wide range of non-fiction pieces. In the 1850s Collins met Charles Dickens and the two struck up a friendship, which lead to Collins becoming a frequent contributor to Dickens s journals

"I just didn't like the two Allens" according to garpwarp. I haven't quite finished the book yet. I'm about 72 percent though. I've read many of Wilkie Collins' books but this one I've found to be a difficult read. I just didn't like the two Allens. Both seemed unlikeable to me and not very intelligent, so I didn't care what happened to them. I put the book down several times, but I was dete. Ria B. said Once the story is well on its way, the suspense begins. Quite a bulky book. Story is a slow-starter; you have to read well into the book before the storyline begins to grab you. It is actually a sort of thriller and particularly the last part of the book is full of suspense. Overall, this book asks for a bit of patience from the reader, but then it is quite a nice read.. Great Story glen I've enjoyed reading many books of Willie Collins. Armadale is by far the best one of them. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery book.
