She and her husband, also an illustrator, are raising their family outside of Raleigh, NC. A visit to the Mote Marine Aquarium with her family inspired a series of drawings and poems beginning with the manatees she discovered there. Karen has illustrated two other books for Sylvan Dell, One Odd Day and My Even Day. Karen has spent over three years on this project which was the runner up for the 2005 SCBWI Don Freeman Grant. She is also the recipient of the 2004 SCBWI Magazine Merit

SFC 5 star review VS Grenier Amazon Customer I found this book written and illustrated by Karen Lee to be a great read to teach the younger set their ABCs in a very unique format compared to other ABC books on the market. Karen writes in rhyme, with the alphabet letter mixed in the text in bold. On the first page, despite the gorgeous illustration of a fierce alligator, the reader won't see the "A" for Alligator until the third line of text! I found this a terrific way to keep the reader's attention focused on waiting for the word. Good NoHolds This book is amazing for kids and you can learn a lot of things from this book. Amazing book for every one. "Great Book" according to Deborah Allen. After looking at the reviews, I decided to give this little book a try. The pictures are outstanding! My 1 1/2 year old loves to look at all the pictures. She is a little young for the advanced vocabulary, but that is okay. This book will grow with her! I love the rhyme. There are some great animals featured and even some that you might not expect (ie the beaver!)
