DESCRIPTION:
"Read this if you play Cello!!" according to Amazon Customer. I found this a very intimate look at the life of a great cellist. The stories in here are priceless and the heart of the book is pure love of the cello and of music. It will make you want to pick up your cello and play Bach, Brahms or Beethoven!. A poorly edited transcription of a taped diary. Robert Although the taped testamonies from Colin give some interesting insight into his life and thoughts they are poorly edited. Thus it is a rough and fragmented read. One example is where Colin says that a cello should be cleaned of rosin with the use a denatured alcohol. This would take the finish varnish off the cello, so he obviously meant to use the alcohol to remove the rosin from the strings. T
Through his witty, convivial, and candid narratives, you'll also encounter such luminaries as Pablo Casals, Ernest Bloch, Igor Stravinsky, Arturo Toscanini, Bela Bartok, Yehudi Menuhin, and others as never before.. One of the 20th century's most distinguished cellists, Colin Hampton is your guide to a bygone world of classical music and musicians. Wise teacher, musical iconoclast, and nonpareil cellist of the illustrious Griller Quartet, Hampton helped to redefine the standards of contemporary chamber music, founded one of America's first cello clubs, and inspired generations of students.
